Welcome to Key Stage 1

In our key stage the children are aged between 5 and 7. From September we will have three mixed Year 1 and Year 2 classes. Each class will be lead by a class teacher with support staff shared across the phase to support the needs of children. This means that support staff will work in more than one of the classes with a range of children.

Start and finish times for each class. Please can we remind you to bring and collect your child at their allocated time to avoid a build up of adults and children on the school grounds.

Start Time  Finish Time
Hargreaves - Mrs Cox 8.50am 3.15pm
Dahl - Miss Robinson 8.50am 3.15pm
Blyton - Miss Clifton 8.50am 3.15pm

 Learning at Home

We advise that any activities outside of school can be valuable to your child’s learning and development. The great outdoors is a fantastic resource for children to learn and to ask questions. We do also have some programmes that can be used to help support reading, writing and maths at home.

Reading

Please support us in school by listening to your child read at least three times a week and record this in your child’s reading log. Reading logs will be checked by staff on either a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and stamped if your child has read three times that week. Children all have access to the Bugs Club resource that can be located on the Active Learn website. This resource will enable children to read books, play games and complete activities all focused around their phonic and reading development.  Children should have their usernames and passwords stuck in their home school diary. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any difficulties.

Spelling

Please help support your child learn their spellings. Each week spellings are set based around the phonemes and spelling strategies they have been learning in their phonics input. Please help support your child to identify the patterns and learn to use them when spelling independently. We advise children to learn these through the repetition of look, cover, say, write and check. They will be tested on a Friday and their scores will be written into their home school diary. Children can also use spelling shed to practice their weekly spellings. Again please see your child’s class teacher if you have any difficulties.
